Where it all began

Simply Steam began in 2019 shortly after I had my first baby and was made redundant as an area sales manager in the equestrian industry. My business brain was looking for a solution for an income and also a lifestyle change that allowed me to be at home with my family. The idea started with Poppy my 15hh Cob who I have owned her from a 4year old and is now the grand age of 21! She had always coughed on dry hay and I was struggling to juggle a baby while lugging 4 soaked hay nets around the yard all Winter!

My family have always worked in the equestrian industry and between us the idea of Simply Steam was put into practice and the very first prototype hay steamer was made in April 2019. Since then there has been a lot of prototypes and endless hours have been spent developing and trialing everything from metal connectors, to plastic boxes and steamer units. That leads us to today where Simply Steam is now something we are all very proud of and we have been blown away by the fantastic response and amazing customer feedback. Simply Steam has been in business for 5 years and we have supplied to all types of horses and owners; including happy hackers, the Mounted Police, racing yards in Newmarket, and a wide range of competition riders from all disciplines.

In 2023, we did a study with the University of Derby which had fantastic results proving what we already knew – that horses love steamed hay and there are so many health benefits of feeding it! We are always growing and developing and now have distributors in Germany, The Netherlands, France and Ireland and are always looking to work with new distributors. Simply Steam is a small family business and you might get my small children chatting away in the background of my calls and ‘helping’ me pack the orders. We have tried to use locally sourced products where we can; the plastic boxes are manufactured just 5 minutes away, and the cardboard boxes we pack every order into are produced just down the road. Everything is sourced and made by us, and excellent customer service is extremely important which is always reflected in our fantastic customer reviews.

Our Main Goals

Promote healthy hay for your horse

Reduces levels of respirable dust

Hay steaming not only helps with your horse with coughs it also makes the hay more palatable

Reduces mould, fungi and bacteria

Despite no visual indicators of dust, bacteria or mould in hay, research has shown that they are present

Helps reduce or eliminate coughs

Steaming hay can be a great way to reduce or eliminate coughs and kill moulds and spore forming bacteria.

More convenient than soaking

Steaming hay is not only healthier but much quicker than soaking hay for many hours.

Dont just take our word for it

Listen to our customers

The Simply Steam hay steamer has been a real game changer for us. We have two veteran horses with dental issues and I have a serious back problem. I had been struggling with nets full of soaked hay so the steamer has made a huge difference. Extremely prompt courier dispatch to Greece, really good technical support and superb customer service. Can’t recommend too highly!

Great product, a fraction of the price of the market leader but works absolutely fine for our 2 horses, our horses always cough if fed dried hay but the cough has vanished with this, it’s easy to use and lighter weight to carry than traditionally soaked hay, and no cold water to unge my hands into, our horses love it. We bought a cheap timer switch in Amazon so we can set it up and forget about it until we need it.

My partner brought me one of your steamers recently and I would just love to say wow, its amazing, so simple to use and my horse does not leave a single piece of hay!, even tries to eat it whilst warm, great product many thanks

Easy to set up, holds two good sized nets, most importantly the coughing stopped immediately. We have a seasonal cougher, she’s on soaked hay this year so we thought she’d be okay but no. Then our thb started to cough and after a bit of research and purse searching decided to plump for the simply steam steamer. Coughing stopped immediately. I find 2 big nets need over an hour, I’ve had them in for an hour and coughing started again so have a timer set up and give it about an hour and a half. All good so far.
