Hay Steamer Winter Care Advice

Hay Steamer Winter Care Advice

This advice only needs to be followed in freezing conditions

Make sure that the steam generator, hose and black box have been emptied of all water.

·Wherever possible bring the Hay Steamer into somewhere warmer where it can’t freeze. Can you put a small heater into a tack room?

Is taking it home to use in a garage etc an option just while it’s freezing.

If you can’t follow any of the steps above can you get a bucket of boiling/ hot water and put the plastic hose in prior to use to allow it do defrost also pour the water over the pipe work inside the box.

Another option would be to take the steam generator and hose home overnight and wrap some rugs or insulation around the box to prevent it freezing.

Remember do not use the hay steamer if the hose or pipework is frozen as the steam escaping from the steam generator will not be able to escape and the pressure will back up inside the steam generator.

Another Handy tip is to always make sure that the pressure release valve at the top on the back of your hay steamer is clear of any hay or other dust and dirt. This is essential to ensure that the pressure valve is working as it should, always do this when the steam generator is unplugged and cold.

Troubleshooting questions and answers.

Q Why is the water inside my steam generator has gone brown and discoloured? A Either the hose is blocked or frozen or the black box has too much water in the bottom and this is causing the water to come back inside the Steam Generator. If this happens unplug immediately and empty the water out and check where the issue has started. Please allow too cool and refill before you turn it back on again.

Q Why does my steam generator have steam escaping? A) The hose could be blocked or frozen or the bottom of the box. Detach the steam generator from all attachments and see if it does the same thing if not the problem is in the box or the hose so attach the hose and steam without it attached to the box. If the problem isn’t in the box or hose please check the black pressure valve on the steam generator isn’t dirty or blocked.
